This Year's Model Updates:

Jeep expands the Grand Cherokee lineup for 2006 with the addition of a range-topping Overland trim level. It's been fitted with more standard luxury features and 5.7-liter V8. New standard features on all models include stability control and one-touch up-down front windows. Newly optional on the Laredo is the Quadra-Trac II four-wheel-drive system and an off-road package.

Pros:
  • Three available engines, excellent off-road ability, balanced handling, simple controls.
Cons:
  • Low-quality interior materials, small backseat, poor gas mileage with the big V8, ride can be bouncy over ruts.

  • Great Car! - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I just purchased my Jeep and i have nothing to complain about. I love everything about it, and all you people complaining about fuel mileage need to get the 4X2, way better on fuel, and handles great in snowy conditions.

I have been very very happy with my purchase so far. I do not drive all that much but it has been an excellent vehicle. I consistently get 20 mpg hwy and about 17 city. No mechanical problems to report as of yet. This is our 4th jeep and have been really happy.

I had a hard time moving from my beloved Ford SVT to the SRT camp. I would do it all over again. I have a 2002 Lightning and the Jeep SRT8 if so much better in so many ways. I was stunned by the handling and the sheer acceleration. This thing pulls like a freight train and can handle curves like a high end sports car. The size is just right to handle myself, my spouse and our two kids on a road trip. Plenty of room for those things you need for a long weekend trip; bags, stroller, etc. My kids also love the rear seat entertainment system and the sound system rocks. This vehicle is stable at all speeds.

  • Horrible Gas Mileage, Very Poor Interior - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Ive driven this jeep now for around 24 months and am about to turn it back it to the dealer after my flease is up...thank god! I must say, for a quickly depreciating $30,000+ Chrysler vehicle, should I be surprised? I have the 65th Anniversary Edition that came out around Jan-Feb, 2006. The interior leaves much to be desired--hard plastic everywhere, questionable fit and finish and seat fabric that easily stains with the slightest bit of a rain drop. The gas mileage is atrocious. I average 14.2 mpg, granted, I live in Atlanta and drive mostly in city type traffic. Also, Im sure the 4x4 version I have and never use on the newly paved suburban roads isnt helping out much either.

  • Jeep story - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Bought this "almost new" Jeep from Auto Gallery of Winnipeg. After few weeks when cleaning the vehicle I realized that the whole side of the vehicle has been repainted possibly due to accident. Went back to the dealer, they offered another 06 GC vehicle if I paid arm and leg in difference. I kept the vehicle and two years later both doors and rear fender started developing serious rust. Not knowing what other surprises are there, traded it for 08 GC. Beside the bad experience with the dealer, 06 GC was a very reliable, no problems during 50 000km of ownership.

  • Well Worth it! - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Recently leased the 5.7L Hemi with great hesitation - THE GAS! Come to think of it, the difference between this SUV and every other on is 2-4mile/g. As far as comparison, i drove the Xterra, RX350, and the XC90. Hands down this car has more power, smoother ride, quiet inside, lots of gadgets to play with, but hidden if youre not into it. With all the bad rep that American auto customer service has got, Ive had a Liberty for 3 years, and theyve taken care of me well.

  • Love my Grand Cherokee - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

So far I love my Laredo. I do miss a few things in my old car (different make) but so far I love my Jeep. Ive heard a few bad things about the GC but Im crossing my fingers that nothing bad (tranny, etc.) will go bad.

  • DO NOT BUY a Grand Cherokee - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

And this is from somebody who has only owned Jeep products and going back to 1993. Mine is an 06 Hemi Limited with 29,000 miles now. 2nd day I owned it had to be towed away on a flat bed. The electronic throttle control went out. At 17,000 miles both differentials needed to be rebuilt. Drive shafts replaced for vibrations, memory seat work when it wants to. Passenger side window wont go up without a fight sometimes (window regulator) Engine ticks, transmission clunks, cannot be driven at 65 mph since the tranny cant make up its mind. The dealerships are complete scum and constantly try to get out of warranty work. You must fight them on everything. $44,000 msrp and now worth $15K

  • 2005 GR Cherokee LTD, 4.7 V8 - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Seats - too firm, only 6 way power. Needs larger side bolsters. Fuel Economy - poor only 12 or 13 - 16, 4.7 V8, MFG rated at 16-21... not even close! Computer was better on overhead (04 model better). Built in GPS, not the best (Alpine), requires expensive DVD upgrade. Several other German touches could have been better.

  • Powerful, but for short people - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I have owned several Jeep Cherokees and was displeased when the new body type came out. My two big complaints: the lousy gas mileage and the low headroom for driver and passenger. We have spent 18 months trying to move the seat and headrest every which way, but it is very difficult to get into the front seats without hitting your head on the top of the car or door frame. Otherwise, a great car with lots of power, lots of features and a pretty good price compared to the competition.
